Measuring Cups & Spoons

I have never been one to measure anything, until recently.
I was always that cook that 'eyeballed' it.

BUT, three months ago, I became fed up with how I looked and decided I needed to take action and make some big changes. My awesome Mom gifted me three months of Weight Watchers Online and I ran with it! To date, I have lost 26.4 pounds and I am NOT hungry!!! I can absolutely do this for a lifetime!
Anyways, back to the measuring cup/spoon project!

My measuring cups and spoons were all over the place as they hardly were used and were always in the way. So, when I came across this pin, I thought, "Ohhh! What a great idea!"

Here is my much less cool but just as functional take:

Notice the split in the wood on the bottom right? Sigh... I didn't have any more pieces to replace it so I just stuck another screw in, split it some more and called it a day. (Please remember the title of this blog here)
I do plan on replacing it someday but for now, it is defiantly functional and no one sees it but me as it is inside the cabinet.

Then there is the measuring spoon issue - I had these little black spoons abut it was really hard to read the measurements on them, as it was labeled in black too.
(why do they do that?!) So I purchased the ones in the picture at The Christmas Tree Shops but the labels are slowly wearing off and I've only had them a few months. (No, I don't use them THAT much!)  So I am on the hunt for a new set - any suggestions? They must be plastic as metal ones clang against the door when it's opened and closed and the noise is a bit annoying.

Here is the original pin from Infarrantly Creative which is an amazing site loaded with fun, interesting and useful ideas and information! Thanks Beckie! My rendition doesn't do yours any justice but thank you sooo much for the inspiration!!!

Magnetic Make-up Board

When I saw this pin, I was wowed! (hmmm... is that a word?)
My own make-up area is not only in my living room but it had become so over crowded and messy!
I wish I had a before picture!!!
So here is my new Make-up station:

And the pin that inspired this project? Make Up Board

Sadly, another pin without a link...
if anyone knows who is responsible for this pin originally,
please contact me as I would LOVE to thank them and give them credit for it!

The Tree

One of my first projects was the tree I created for my 2 year old's bedroom wall.

The Finished Tree
Many owls have come to live in our tree.

The Leaves are cut from scrapbook paper and I used Mod Podge to adhere them.
(Which I did not know existed until PINTEREST!!)

Before the critters came to stay

The inspiration for the tree came from the following pins:

A white tree with shelves
Tree over crib
Chalkboard wall and tree

But the BEST pin that gave me the most inspiration is here:
A beautiful tree!
Unfortunately, I don't know who originally painted it and posted it as it has no link... if anyone knows who did this tree, please contact me as I would LOVE to thank them and give them credit for it!

And here are the curtains that I was inspired to sew! To match the room:

The horizontal/vertical difference in the fabric was originally an 'oops!'
but I love how it came out - very vintage, post-card-ish.
Which matches well with the leaves on the tree which were cut from vintage-ish scrapbook paper.

Introduction & Explination

Well hello there, big crafty world!  Let me introduce myself -

My name is Jess and I live in the tiniest little state: Rhode Island, which I must add is not an Island at all. I live out in a beautifully wooded area in the Northern part of the state and after growing up in the capitol city, I absolutely LOVE the quite!

We have three children - 19, 12 and 2. (girl, boy, boy)
We have two dogs, two cats, two* hermit crabs and one fish.
Yes, our house is full!

So, why a blog you ask? Well, for as long as I can remember I have been searching for a 'hobby'. I have tried my hand at many many many, (did I mention many?) things... knitting, crochet, drawing, woodworking, painting, and so on and so on ... failing miserably at each. Possibly never giving each task enough practice to get good at it and becoming increasingly frustrated as I continued to plod along, never quite finding 'my niche'.

That is, until PINTEREST came along!!!

I can't tell you how many things I have fallen in love with on Pinterest! What a GREAT invention!!! I have found lots of 'projects' that I could replicate there and have had so much fun doing it!

I have recently decided to tackle a HUGE project and thought I should start blogging about my Pinterest crafts now, that way I have a great record of them for later! Later when, I don't quite know, but a record all the same, PLUS I can give credit to all the amazing crafters out there that have inspired my happiness!
